M.Ch - Surgical Gastroenterology/G.I. Surgery

Founded in 1926, the Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas Medical College (GSMC) and the King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital are amongst the foremost teaching and medical care providing institutions in India. The medical college (school) provides training to about 2000 students in undergraduate, postgraduate and superspeciality medical courses; in undergraduate and postgraduate physical and occupational therapy; Masters and PhD courses in various allied specialties. A nursing school is also maintained by these institutions.

A long cherished dream of a Medical College at Madurai the Temple City – came into reality in the year 1954 with the great efforts of the National Leader late Thiru K. Kamaraj.
  
Thirumathi Rajkumari Amrit Kaur, the then Hon’ble Minister for Health, the Government of India inaugurated the Institution on 2.8.1954 at the old Taluk Building at the Fair Weather road, Madurai.

DEAN – Prof. Dr. S. P. Rao

Dr S P Rao, Professor in Preventive & Social Medicine is in possession of post graduate degrees in Community Medicine and Hospital Administration.. He is qualified in Epidemiology, Computer technology and Infectious diseases. Due to his penchant for field epidemiology work, he travelled Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Delhi. He has been consulting epidemiologist for WHO centre for Social Science and DANIDA projects in MP.

The medical Centre was founded as a teaching hospital of Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute in 1985, with the intention of translating the experience and expertise in medical education into tangible and affordable health care to the community. It was founded by Late NPV Ramasway Udayar in 1985.
