The Hyderabad Medical School which came into existence in 1846 A.D. was the fore-runner of Osmania Medical College. The medium of instruction was Urdu, the degree was Hakeem. Last two decades of the nineteenth century was the glorious period of this school. Seventh and the last Nizam of Hyderabad Nawab Mir Osman Ali Khan established Osmania University in 1919 A.D. and in the following year the Hyderabad Medical College. In 1957 A.D. Hyderabad became the Capital of enlarged Andhra Pradesh. Tremendous zeal and enthusiasm were evident to achieve all-round progress in medical education.
School of Tropical Medicine (STM), is one of the seven such Institutions dedicated to research, care and cure of tropical diseases. STM was founded by Sir Leonard Rogers way back in 1914. The corridors of STM had regular footfall of eminent researchers like Leonard Rogers, Ronald Ross, R Knowels, UN Brahmachari, JB Chatterjee, RN Chopra and many others. The foundation stone of the School of Tropical Medicine was laid by the Governor. Lord Carmichael in the year 1914 on 24th February at the initiative of Sir Leonard Rogers.

Founded in 1926, the Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas Medical College (GSMC) and the King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital are amongst the foremost teaching and medical care providing institutions in India. This is a 300 bedded facility providing highly specialized care to children. Apart from MD Pediatrics, we run 9 postdoctoral DM Programmes and 4 Fellowships in various super specialties of Pediatrics - the largest number of academic programmes in any department in India. Of these, 4 DM Programmes and the 4 Fellowships were initiated after I took over Chair of the department in October 2016.
