The Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram (also known as Thiruvananthapuram Medical College) is in Thiruvananthapuram (the capital of Kerala), India. Founded in 1951, it was dedicated by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and is Kerala's oldest medical college. The college was known in early records as Medical College (of Thiruvananthapuram), since it was the only medical institute in the state at its inception.

Guru Gobind Singh Medical College with more than 630 bedded Hospital is a Punjab Government institution established in 1973. The Govt. of Punjab, vide its Notification No.8/02/2005-1HB-III/6308 dated 31.10.2006 transferred this college to Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot as its constituent Medical College. The College is recognized by Medical Council of India vide its Letter No.MCI34941(UG)2010-PUN/35407 dated 22.10.2010 for 50 MBBS admissions per year.

History 

One hospital and one dispensary were started in 1845. Subsequently, such facilities were recommended for other parts of the state as well. However, due to lack of trained doctors the initiative with limited success, In 1855, a maternity hospital and one dispensary and a medical school were opened in Jaipur, inaugurated on 7th September, 1861 and in the first batch 24 students were admitted. Vinayaka Mission’s Kirupananda Variyar Medical College, Salem was started in 1995, affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Tamil Nadu.
