Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences “Deemed To Be University”, Karad is located in Western Maharashtra, India against the background of mountains and valleys. The green, eco-friendly campus is spread over 57 acres and is well connected by rail, road & air.

The University is accredited by NAAC 'A+' grade and has been conferred with ISO 9001 : 2015 certification. The constituent faculties of the University include Medical, Dental, Physiotherapy, Nursing, Pharmacy and Biotechnology offering undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the respective faculties. It also runs Ph.D. programs and Post Doctoral Fellowships in various subjects.

The medical college is about 35 years old and is recognized by the Medical Council of India, Medical Council of Malaysia and is listed in the WHO's World Directory of Medical Schools. MBBS and postgraduate degree/diploma courses in clinical and basic sciences in 17 disciplines are recognized by Medical Council of India. It also admits the international students from all over the globe for undergraduate courses.

It has state-of-the-art museums with large collection of specimens and models. The KIMS diagnostic laboratory has been accredited by National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL). The Lead Referral Laboratory is the first of its kind in Maharashtra state, which was ranked the first amongst 40 such centres in India. The well equipped Molecular & Human Genetics Laboratory is a feather in the cap.

The teaching hospital KH&MRC (Krishna Hospital and Medical Research Centre) is recognised by National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH).

The teaching hospital is 1125 bedded multispecialty tertiary care hospital with facilities for Critical Care, Endoscopic Surgeries, Dialysis, Cardiology, Cardio-vascular-thoracic-surgery, Oncology, Urology, Neurosurgery, Plastic surgery, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a recognized Renal Transplant Unit. It has fully equipped major operation theaters, minor theaters, labour rooms, blood bank accredited by NABH, radiodiagnosis and radiotherapy, computerized medical records, counseling services etc. There are separate intensive care units like Medical, Surgical, Coronary care, Pediatric, Neonatal (accredited by Neonatology Forum of India), Respiratory and Obstetrics. The neonatal ICU is recognized by Neonatology Forum of India. The radio-diagnosis department has facilities for MRI, color doppler, mammography, DSA etc. It also actively participates in national healthcare programs and various extensions and outreach community programs initiated by the Institute.

The University has been ranked 5th amongst the cleanest higher Educational Institutions in the category of 'Technical Institutions - Universities (Residential)' in the year 2018. The University has also received certificate for 'Maintaining, Promoting and Encouraging the Culture of Swachhta in Higher Education Institutions in the country'.

Founder
Shri. Jaywantrao Bhosale was born in the small village of Rethare BK in Satara district on 22nd Dec. 1924. He studied at Kolhapur and Pune acquiring the degrees of BA & LLB. He was elected as the Chairman of one of the first co-operative sugar factories in India in 1959. In the next 30 years as Chairman of one of the largest and richest co-operative sugar factory in India he gave new direction and leadership to the industry which underwent transformation from merely an industry to an instrument of social change. It was during his tenure that besides sugar, alcohol, acetone, paper started being manufactured from sugarcane. He served as President of the Deccan Sugar Technologists Association, Chairman of the Maharashtra Federation of Co-operative Sugar Factories (1967-69), member of the Finance Committee of Government of India and member of the State Legislative Council.

His foray into education started with the establishment of Shetkari Shikshan Prasarak Mandal (Society for Promotion of Education in Farmers) in 1964. The Society runs many schools and colleges in the rural area and these institutions were among the first to encourage and promote education for girls in villages. In 1974 he established the Krishna Charitable Trust. In 1982 the Krishna Hospital was started with 200 beds and in 1984 he succeeded in persuading the Government of Maharashtra and the then Chief Minister Shri. Vasantrao Dada Patil to allow private participation in medical schools and engineering colleges. The Late Chief Minister was a member of the Board of Trustees and a guiding force.

Dr. Suresh Bhosale graduated in medicine. His career spans a spectrum of activities ranging from a career in medicine to his contribution in the co-operative sector and education.

As a graduate of medicine he is a practicing surgeon and has held the position of Assistant Professor (Lecturer), Associate Professor (Reader) and Professor in General Surgery. He has led many research projects and published research papers in reputed national and international journals. He has initiated a number of community projects, notable among them the “Work place intervention for HIV AIDS in migrant sugarcane harvesting workers” and “Cancer Awareness, Detection and Early Intervention for Cancer in women”. He was the Medical Administrator of Krishna Hospital and Medical Research Centre from 1987 for almost 18 years. During his tenure the hospital underwent expansion and up-gradation with addition of many new facilities to be recognized as one of the most important health care centres in southern Maharashtra.

In the year 2005, he was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences “Deemed To Be University”, Karad. As a Vice-Chancellor he started the new faculties of Dentistry, Physiotherapy, Nursing and Biotechnology. He laid the foundation for research oriented scientific teaching in medicine with the establishment of a competency based curriculum, adoption of best practices and independent empowered 'Directorate of Research'.

As professor of surgery he started the sub-specialty of 'Breast Surgery' and has performed more than 1400 breast surgeries. The 'Breast Cancer Tissue Bank' established under his leadership and the 'Human and Genetic Lab' have facilities for Immuno-Histochemistry and breast cancer gene markers.

He is a Post-Graduate teacher and Ph. D. guide for students in General Surgery. He is also actively involved in teaching and research.

In 2013 he took over the mantle of Chairman & Managing Trustee of the Krishna Charitable Trust (KCT) which is the sponsoring Society of the Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences “Deemed To Be University”. KCT & KIMS “Deemed To Be University” continue to grow & expand their philanthropic activities under his leadership & guidance. KCT is one of the largest & most well-known philanthropic society in southern Maharashtra. In 2019, he was appointed as the Chancellor of KIMSDU.

Dr. Pravin H. Shingare is a retired Maharashtra state government officer who has worked on various posts right from Lecturer to the Director. Apart from his experience as professor and head department of Anatomy, he also has served, one of the oldest government medical college in the country, in the capacity of Vice Dean and Dean. During his Deanship of Grant Government Medical College & JJ group of Hospital Mumbai, he faced many challenges including terrorist attack (Kasab) on Mumbai city. He managed the JJ Hospital successfully during various disasters like fire, local train accidents, flood situation, building collapse, food poisoning etc.

After graduation from Government Medical College, Miraj, he completed his post-graduation from SRTR Government Medical College, Ambajogai. After successful teaching career, he entered in the administration. He has served as Controller Of Examination of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik, during which he was instrumental in conducting the first medical CET in the state of Maharashtra and has set a pattern of medical admission in the state since 1999. He was active member of first medical post-graduation entrance exam (PG MCET) and first Super Speciality entrance exam (MHSSET).

Since beginning of his career he was aspiring for higher post for which he had to resign from state government services, so as to join in KIMS, Karad. He was recalled by the government after 10 years on promotion. He again second time left the government service for promotion so as to join newly started Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik. Every promotion which he got was never due to seniority but by competition in the Maharashtra Public Service Commission. He was the longest serving director of Medical Education and Research in half century history of medical education department of the state government. During his directorship he was instrumental in opening four new medical colleges and increasing more than one thousand MBBS seats in the state of Maharashtra.

During his long and distinguished career, he has worked in various capacities in Mumbai University; MUHS, Nashik; North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon; Dr. D.Y. Patil Deemed University, Mumbai. He has administrative and academic experience of various posts like Controller of Examination; Dean, Faculty of Medicine; Senate Member; Management Council Member; Academic Council Member; Board of Examination Member; Chairman Board of Studies etc. He was an examiner at the undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D. examinations. He has worked as Chairman of the Medical Research Council of Maharashtra (MRCM), Member of Maharashtra Medical Council, President of Maharashtra Nursing Council, President of Occupational and Physiotherapy Council of Maharashtra, Chairman of Maharashtra Paramedical Council, Member of Acupuncture Council of Maharashtra and Director of Maharashtra State Board of Nursing and Paramedical Education. He has worked as Member of Inspection Committee of Medical Council of India. He was the recipient of the life time achievement award by SEW Association Mumbai.

Presently he is also Medical Advisor to Symbiosis International Deemed University Pune, Member of Board of Management of MGM Institute of Medical Sciences (Deemed University) Navi Mumbai, Member of Board of Management of Symbiosis International Deemed University Pune, Chairman of Academic Committee, College of Physician and Surgeon Mumbai, Member of Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre for Organ Donation Mumbai. He joined KIMSDU in July 2019.

Hon’ble Dr. Vedprakash Mishra who is presently is the National Head of the Academic Programme of Indian Programme UNESCO Chair in Bio-Ethics Haifa, is an illustrious member of the medical fraternity, well known not only in India but also overseas. A dynamic orator, he is a keen academician and an astute administrator. Born in Nagpur and educated with a MD degree, he streamlined his life-path to equip himself by completing Master of Industrial Relation and Personnel Management and Bachelor’s in Journalism as well. He has been conferred with the highest academic distinction of D. conferred with D.Sc. (Honoris Cause) by Six Health Sciences Universities in the country in recognition of his selfless services to the cause of medical education of consequence and relevance at the National and International level.

He has held the august office of the Hon’ble Chancellor of Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (Deemed University), Karad for a full term of five years with aplomb from 2014 to 2019.

His association with the Medical Council of India in various capacities has been of well over three decades whereat he held prestigious position that of Chairman of the Postgraduate Medical Education Committee, Chairman of the Finance Committee, Member of the Executive Committee, Chairman of the Academic Committee and several others.

He has the distinction of being recognized as ‘Professor Emeritus’, ‘Professor of Eminence’, and ‘Professor of Excellence’, with five Health Sciences Universities in the country. He is holding the office of Pro-Chancellor-cum-Chief Advisor of Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences (Deemed to Be University), Nagpur and also renders his services as the Honorary Director, Centre for Health Professional Education Policy and Planning.

Dr. Mishra functions at multiple higher designations with several educational organizations and is a Consultant Editor for Contemporary World’s ‘Who’s Who’ at the American Biographical Institute, U.S.A. He has been a Pioneer in evolving Postgraduate Degree Courses Curriculum as the Chairman of Postgraduate Medical Education Committee of the Medical Council of India, New Delhi as well as in evolving the Integrated Competency based Undergraduate Medical Education Curriculum and launching the National Faculty Development Programme for full time teaching faculty of the medical schools in the country.

He is the Honorary Advisor to the National Indian Medical Association and Chairman of the Standing Committee for Medical Education, with it’s headquarter at New Delhi. He is a Member of the Board of management, Governing Council, Advisory Council at various renowned educational institutions and organizations engaged in the field of Medical Education, Management and Research.

He has to his credit unique distinctions like ‘Youngest ever Teacher member’ on the Senate of Nagpur University, youngest ever Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Nagpur University. Member of Expert Committee on Financing of Higher Education, Central Advisory Board for education, Govt. of India and has been elected to Senate, Academic Council and Board of Management of Nagpur University, for a number of terms.

Dr. Mishra is the recipient of well over 100 prestigious National and International awards in recognition of his selfless service to the cause of higher education in ‘general’ and medical education in ‘particular’ for well over three decades and the spate is on in an endless manner.

His creative work, notable achievements and unparallel contribution has been acknowledged not only in the country but also by the Global population. His father Shri Gangaprasadji Mishra has sketched the biography of his beloved son Dr. Vedprakash Mishra giving it a heart warming title, ‘Dream Child’; a distinctive piece of biographic literature that has been included in the Limca book of World record as the only ‘Biography of a notable son penned by his father’ and in the Unique world records under the caption, ‘The only biographical sketch of an illustrious son by his father’. Indeed he is an apostle of a tall order.

An academician par excellence having a total teaching experience of well over 34 years including that of a post graduate teacher for well over two decades and administrative experience of the similar period.

 

She happens to be the first lady professional in the State of Maharashtra to be appointed as the Pro-Vice Chancellor of a statutory University (DMIMS (DU), Wardha). She has been the Director Professor, Department of Physiology, Jawarharlal Nehru Medical College, Sawangi Meghe, Wardha a constituent unit of Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences (Deemed to be University).

 

She is designated as IMA Honorary Professor by the National Headquarter of IMA, New Delhi and is also conferred with the title of Professor Emeritus by Bareilly International University, Bareilly Uttar Pradesh.

 

She has been designated as the National Head of Allied Sciences Bioethics programme of UNESCO Chair, Haifa and has been instrumental in invocation of Bioethics Programme in the stream of Allied Sciences including Para-Medical Sciences, Ayurvedic Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Nursing Sciences respectively and their appropriate incorporation of Bioethics in Faculty Development Programme for teaching faculty in the stream of allied sciences.

She has many National and International publications to her credit and has conducted many hands on workshops. She has travelled widely all over India and abroad, as a guest/keynote speaker. She has undertaken/ guided and carried out several research projects and is also a Doctoral Degree (Ph.D.) Supervisor in the stream of Physiology as well as Interdisciplinary Sciences.

She has been an outstanding teacher and has been conferred with “Priyadarshani Award” in recognition of devoted services as a committed medical teacher and selfless mentor of the learners on 19th November, 2016 in the name of Late Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi. She was also conferred with ‘Best Teacher Award’ at the Govt. Medical College, Nagpur on the ‘Teacher Day’ on 5th September, 2017.

 

She has also been conferred with “National Women Empowerment Award” instituted by National IMA Woman Doctor Wing, New Delhi on 14th October, 2018 in recognition of being the first Medical Professional lady Pro-Vice Chancellor of a University in the state of Maharashtra.

She was conferred with ‘Samaj Ratna Sanman-2015’ on 25th November, 2015 at Nagpur in recognition of yeomen services rendered by her to the societal cause and also being an inspiring role model.


She has been conferred with Honorary Fellowship by International Institute of Organizational Psychological Medicine, USA, UK, Australia and India at 06th Convocation held at Hyderabad on 1st December, 2018, Honorary Fellowship by Association of Medical Specialties, Indian Medical Association, Headquarters, Hyderabad in November, 2019 and also the Honorary Fellowship by Association of General Practitioners, Indian Medical Association, Headquarters, Chennai in November, 2019.

She has to her credit initiation of several innovative teaching learning practices and curriculum design as well. She has contributed immensely in the domains of assessment, evaluation and promotion of educational research. Apart from being a keen academician and an astute administrator, her area of keen interest is Student Welfare resulting in overall transformation of a learner into a keen professional, good citizen and a meaningful human being. Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences “Deemed To Be University”, a place, where a thought of serving the society sowed in 1982, has grown in a sprawling campus spanning 57 acres of tranquility. Equipped with the best that technology has to offer, Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences “Deemed To Be University” strongly believes in the thought that lead to its inception, namely “social responsibility”. Our founder Late Shri. Jaywantraoji Bhosale’s foray into education started way back in 1964 with the establishment of Society for Promotion of Education in Farmers. In 1984 where medical education was the forte of government run institutions, Late Shri Jaywantraoji Bhosale, with his continuous efforts persuaded the then Government of Maharashtra for private participation in the field of medical education and laid the foundation for what today is Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences “Deemed To Be University”. Acquiring the University status in 2005, Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences “Deemed To Be University” has spread its wings to explore the diverse fields in medicine through its constituent faculties which include Medical, Dental, Physiotherapy, Nursing and Allied Sciences (Microbiology, Biotechnology, Krishna Institute of Pharmacy). The staff at each college comes with a wealth of knowledge, experience and most prominently the desire to inculcate values in each student. Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (Latin: Medicinae Baccalaureus, Baccalaureus Chirurgiae; abbreviated in many ways, most commonly MBBS, but also MB ChB, BMBS, MB BCh, MB BChir), is the primary medical degree awarded by medical schools in countries that follow the tradition of the United Kingdom. The historical degree nomenclature states that they are two separate undergraduate degrees. In practice, however, they are usually combined as one and conferred together, and may also be awarded at graduate-level medical schools.

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), is a professional degree in medical science. A person holding the MBBS degree becomes a certified medical practitioner. The duration of MBBS course is five years and six months including one year of rotational internship at hospitals, health centres, and health camps organised by non-profit organisations (NGOs). The purpose of PG education is to create specialists who would provide high quality health care and advance the cause of science through research & training. A post graduate specialist having undergone the required training in anesthesiology should be able to recognize the health needs of the community. She/he should be highly competent anesthesiologist with broad range of skills that will enable him/her to practice anesthesiology independently.
