Srikakulam District is the extreme Northeastern District of Andhra Pradesh situated within the Geographic Co-Ordinates of 18°-20’ and 19°- 10’ of Northern latitude and 83°-50’ and 84°-50’ of Eastern longitude. The Nagavali, Vamsadhara, Suvarnamukhi, Vegavathi, Mahendratanaya, Gomukhi, Champavathi, Bahuda and Kumbikota Gedda are the important rivers of the District . The Vamsadhara river rises in the Eastern Ghats of Orissa State and enters Srikakulam District in Bhamini Mandal and finally falls into the Bay of Bengal near Kalingapatnam.

Nimra Educational Society (NES), a Muslim Minority body established in the Year 1991 and registered under the Andhra Pradesh Societies Registration Act of 1350 Fasli.

NES is established with a view to promote general, technical, medical and other professional/scientific education among the general masses, regardless of their caste, creed and community but with a special focus on the Muslim Minorities. Anil Neerukonda Hospital was established with all basic specialities in the year 2005 with a bed strength of 300. Now the same hospital has been upgraded as teaching hospital with 650 beds having 10 specialities

Siddhartha Medical College was established by Siddhartha Academy of General and Technical Education, Vijayawada -10 in November, 1980 with an annual intake of 100 students. The then Hon'ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh late Sri.T.Anjaiah inaugurated the college on 13-3 1981.and the regular session started from 16- 3 – 1981.

Viswabharathi Medical College is located on the High way road that connects the Kurnool city to Kodumur. It is established at penchikalapadu 20 km a way form kurnool bus station. It is 22 Km for away from Kurnool railway station.The Shamshabad Airport is 160 Km away from the college.

When Andhra State was formed in October 1953, the Government of Andhra decided to start a medical college in the Rayalaseema region of the state. In Government Order Ms. No. 1835, Health, dated 29 November 1955, the government of Andhra passed orders to establish a medical college, the third one in the state at Kurnool. As the building was not ready for the college the government decided to admit 50 students intended for Kurnool Medical College at Kurnool City in July 1956.

Situated amidst pristine surroundings at Nellimarla in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh, Maharajah’s Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) is the first and only Teaching Hospital of its kind in these areas.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 38 of the Andhra Pradesh Government Medical and Dental Instituion converting them into Semi-Autonomous Institution under the Act No.31 of 2007, published in Andhra Pradesh Gazette vide reference No.26 January 23,2008.

The Government have issued orders for construction of new Medical College and Hospital viz.,Rajiv Gandhi Insttue of Medical Sciences (RIMS).Ongole with an estimated cost of Rs.25 crores Sanctioned in G.O.Ms.No.210 HM&FW (E1)Dept., Dated 27-05-2007.
