Cardiology (from Greek καρδίᾱ kardiā, "heart" and -λογία -logia, "study") is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart as well as some parts of the cardiovascular system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease and electrophysiology. Physicians who specialize in this field of medicine are called cardiologists, a specialty of internal medicine. Pediatric cardiologists are pediatricians who specialize in cardiology. Physicians who specialize in cardiac surgery are called cardiothoracic surgeons or cardiac surgeons, a specialty of general surgery.
All cardiologists study the disorders of the heart, but the study of adult and child heart disorders are through different training pathways. Therefore, an adult cardiologist (often simply called "cardiologist") is inadequately trained to take care of children, and pediatric cardiologists are not trained to take care of adult heart disease. The surgical aspects are not included in cardiology and are in the domain of cardiothoracic surgery. For example, coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG), cardiopulmonary bypass and valve replacement are surgical procedures performed by surgeons, not cardiologists. However, some minimally invasive procedures such as the cardiac catheterization and pacemaker implantation are performed by cardiologists with additional training in non-surgical interventions (interventional cardiology and electrophysiology respectively).
Introduction
Amala Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) named after Blessed Virgin Mary, is a multidisciplinary medical network of pedagogical, therapeutic, research and outreach programmes. AIMS traces its origin to Amala Cancer Hospital which was started in 1978. It is managed by the Devamatha Province of CMI Congregation founded by St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara.
The institution and its teaching hospital are located in a sprawling green campus located right on the Chennai-Kolkata National Highway (NH 16). It is 23 km from the Vijayawada city the biggest Railway Junction in South India and just 5km away from Vijayawada Airport and everyday air flights are available from Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and New Delhi cities. The campus is well connected by road by Chennai, Kolkata highway number. The Institute and Hospital was established in Rural Area in Krishna District covering the population around 30 lakhs.
Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh is one of the premier and oldest medical institutes of the NE region of India. British Philanthropist Sir John Berry White, a retired brigadier of British army and later the civil surgeon of the erstwhile Lakhimpur district in 1870, contributed his lifetime earning of Rupees Fifty Thousand (present day valuation is more than 50 million of rupees to establish his brain child “Berry White Medical School” in 1900 AD. This school heralded the beginning of Allopathic Medical Education by conferring LMP Diploma in old undivided Assam.

Handique, Hon’ble Health Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Hon’ble MLA Shri Rana Goswami and a galaxy of distinguished guests and a huge crowd, on the historic day of 25th August 2008.
When Andhra State was formed in October 1953, the Government of Andhra decided to start a medical college in the Rayalaseema region of the state. In Government Order Ms. No. 1835, Health, dated 29 November 1955, the government of Andhra passed orders to establish a medical college, the third one in the state at Kurnool. As the building was not ready for the college the government decided to admit 50 students intended for Kurnool Medical College at Kurnool City in July 1956.
Katuri Medical College is a vision brought to its present day structure by Sri Katuri Subbarao – the Pillar, Effort and Reality of this institution.
Rangaraya Medical College was started as a private medical college in 1958. It was the result of dedicated efforts by Dr M V Krishnarao, who was a Minister of Education in the cabinet of Sri Rajaji in the composite Madras state. He was later joined by Colonel Dr D S Raju, M R C P, who was a personal physician of Sri Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and later Deputy Minister of Defence and Health in the cabinet of Sri Jawaharlal Nehru.
Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (Formerly, Bhagalpur Medical College Bhagalpur) was founded in the year 1970 under the management of Dept. of Health, Medical education and F.W, Govt. of Bihar. The college is affiliated to Aryabhatta Knowledge University, Patna (Formerly to Tilkamanjhi Bhagalpur university, Bhagalpur).
100 students are admitted annually before 31st July and classes are taken from 1st August. The process of admission is completed on or before 30th September every year.
