Baba Farid University of Health Sciences,Faridkot

The foundation stone of the Institute was laid by Hon’ble Dr. Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy, then President of India, on October 17, 1997 commemorating the 400th year of foundation of the historic holy city of Sri Amritsar by the 4th Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Ram Das Ji. Since then, SGRDIMSR is working round the clock providing quality services to the needy patients irrespective of their caste, creed, religion, or faith.

Guru Gobind Singh Medical College with more than 630 bedded Hospital is a Punjab Government institution established in 1973. The Govt. of Punjab, vide its Notification No.8/02/2005-1HB-III/6308 dated 31.10.2006 transferred this college to Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot as its constituent Medical College. The College is recognized by Medical Council of India vide its Letter No.MCI34941(UG)2010-PUN/35407 dated 22.10.2010 for 50 MBBS admissions per year.

Government Medical College, Patiala was started on 29th September, 1953 at Patiala, the capital of erstwhile Pepsu State, at that time a separate State from Punjab, under the Government Of India President’s rule . This was the first Medical College in Pepsu State with a population of over 20 lacs. The Rajendra Hospital, Patiala, was under construction when the college started. The foundation stone of the college building was laid by Dr. Rajendra Parshad then President of India on21.12.1953.

Government Medical College, Amritsar traces its foundation as a Medical School in Lahore in 1864. It was later relocated to Amritsar in 1920.

The college has a cherished history and earned for itself a place of pride in the field of medical education and patient care in the region. Over the years the school has emerged as a nursery of medical teachers and trained physicians who have fanned out in the country to serve as key participants in private as well as public healthcare in order to meet the growing needs of the nation.
