Community Medicine is the branch of medicine concerned with the health of populations. It strives to protect and promote the health and well-being of the community through the Primary Health Care approach
Health needs of populations are measured and appropriate strategies are developed to improve the health status of the community through health promotion, disease prevention and health protection.
Training in Community Medicine aims ate nurturing Primary Care Physicians who can recognize and mange common health problems in the community. The Community-oriented Primary care Physician will have the ability to identify, prioritize and manage the health problems of the community. He/she would be an effective leader of the health team at primary care levels.
The Community Physician demonstrates excellence in academics, health research, and leadership skills. He/she is instrumental in development of public health policy, design, implementation and evaluation of health programs and applies them to a broad range of community health issues.
Students of this subject will have to apply the knowledge they have gained in several areas of medicine for the benefit of the community. They are taught the preventive, curative and promotive aspects of every illness. They are also encouraged to involve in the community, during their Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI).

The goal of undergraduate teaching/training in Community Medicine is directed towards achievement of âHEALTH FOR ALLâ. Aim of undergraduate training is to prepare the students to become Primary Care Physicians competent to handle & manage commonly occurring health problems in the community
Introduction
PESIMSR, Kuppam, established on 11th of September 2001, is the brainchild of our Founder Chairman, Dr. M.R.Doreswamy. It was his dream to put up a medical college & Hospital with modern facilities to cater for the rural population. This is the most modern medical college in the Rayalaseema Districts of Andhra Pradesh, Providing education to the budding Doctors and State of the art medical health care to the local population, and also to those from bordering districts of Tamil Nadu & Karnataka. PESIMSR, Kuppam is a permanent recognized Medical College by MCI & Govt.
Amala Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) named after Blessed Virgin Mary, is a multidisciplinary medical network of pedagogical, therapeutic, research and outreach programmes. AIMS traces its origin to Amala Cancer Hospital which was started in 1978. It is managed by the Devamatha Province of CMI Congregation founded by St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara.
Melmaruvathur Adhiparasakthi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research was established on 2008. The Hospital attached to the College is being run from the year 1986, providing health care services to the surrounding villages for more than 30 years. People belonging to the poor socio economic group of the nearby 750 villages including agricultural labourers are getting various health care services from our Hospital.
The institution and its teaching hospital are located in a sprawling green campus located right on the Chennai-Kolkata National Highway (NH 16). Â It is 23 km from the Vijayawada city the biggest Railway Junction in South India and just 5km away from Vijayawada Airport and everyday air flights are available from Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and New Delhi cities. Â The campus is well connected by road by Chennai, Kolkata highway number. Â The Institute and Hospital was established in Rural Area in Krishna District covering the population around 30 lakhs.
Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh is one of the premier and oldest medical institutes of the NE region of India. British Philanthropist Sir John Berry White, a retired brigadier of British army and later the civil surgeon of the erstwhile Lakhimpur district in 1870, contributed his lifetime earning of Rupees Fifty Thousand (present day valuation is more than 50 million of rupees to establish his brain child âBerry White Medical Schoolâ in 1900 AD. This school heralded the beginning of Allopathic Medical Education by conferring LMP Diploma in old undivided Assam.
The journey of Medical Education in Assam started with the establishment of Berry White Medical School at Dibrugarh about 100 years back. The first Medical College in Assam-the Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh was established on 3rd November 1947 by upgradation of the Berry White Medical School. Subsequently, on 20th September, 1960 the Gauhati Medical College, Guwahati and on 15th August, 1968 the Silchar Medical College, Silchar were established.
A long felt need of the people of Jorhat was fulfilled with the laying of the Foundation Stone of the Jorhat Medical College by Hon'ble Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh, in presence of Hon'ble Chief Minister of Assam Sjt Tarun Gogoi, Honâble Union Minister of Law & Justice Shri Veerappa Moily, Honâble Union Minister of Mines and DoNER Shri B.K. Handique, Honâble Health Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Honâble MLA Shri Rana Goswami and a galaxy of distinguished guests and a huge crowd, on the historic day of 25th August 2008.
GIMSR Hospital that was started in 2014 spread its wings into a medical college with the first batch of its UG students joining in the year 2015. Currently, the institution has 600 undergraduate students and geared up to start its PG programs in the next academic year.
Diphu Medical College was established in the year 2011. It was initiated by the laying of the foundation stone by the Honourable Health Minister of Assam Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma at Baghmari, Diphu on 19th January, 2011 in presence of the then MP Biren Singh Engti, State HAD Minister Khorsing Engti, Parliamentary Secretary Bidya Sing Engleng, MLA Mansing Rongpi. The name of Diphu Medical College during that time was Assam Hills Medical College and Research Institute (AHMC&RI).
